Hi! My name is Lynn Braxton. I am the mother of six children, my fourth being autistic. His name is Alex and he is the reason I am writing this blog. I want to share our experience as mother and son after his diagnosis, and, in so doing, help other mothers understand what did and did not work for us in either “curing” him or simply trying to make him more comfortable. I wish to, at the very least, reach out to mothers in similar relationships with their children who may need to know there is someone out there who understands them.
Alex is twenty-eight years old and lives with my husband and me and our two younger daughters. He loves watching Disney movies, being tickled, taking naps, eating pizza, and wearing his primary-color sweats (we call them his “jammies”) as much as possible. As for myself, I love watching Law and Order, reading, being with my family, scrapbooking, taking walks in my garden, eating chocolate (the darker the better), and wearing my sun hat outside.
We truly hope that the experiences we share here may be helpful to you and your family. May the stories of our lives touch your life and bring you comfort in knowing you are not alone in experiencing autism.
